STREETSVILLE NEIGHBOURHOOD

The Streetsville area has a 19th century atmosphere as the majority of the buildings are closely knit in a village-like fashion. It is bordered by Argentia Rd. on the north, Eglinton Ave. W. on the south, Erin Mills Pkwy. on the west and Creditview Rd. on the east.

Streetsville (pop. 47,327) is a thriving neighbourhood with a high socio economic status and an average household income of over $95K. Majority of the adult population is university-educated and are in top occupations like Business, Sales, Service, Finance and Administration. Top three ethnic groups include Europeans, North Americans and Asians. Streetsville is a mature community located in the northwestern corner of Mississauga on the Credit River. It maintains its "small town" charm through many historical buildings and streetscapes.

Schools in Streetsville

Several schools, including some top schools are located at the outskirts as well as within Streetsville. Elementary schools include; Ray Underwill, and Vista Heights Elementary School. St. Joseph Catholic Elementary School can be found at the south end of the area. Dolphin Middle School is located at the heart of the area. Streetsville High School is located nearby.

Public Transportation

The Streetsville GO Station can be used to travel in and around Streetsville. In addition, the public transit passes throughout the heart of the area and the outskirts as well.

Nature

Scenic and vivid scenery can be found throughout the Streetsville area. Hyde's Mill Hollow runs throughout beautiful parks in the heart of the area such as Tillsdown Park, Riverview Park, Timothy Street Park, Riverrun Park and merges with several trails, all ending at the Streetsville Memorial Park and Vic Johnston Community Centre. David John Culham trails runs alongside Credit River in the beautiful Streetsville. One can always find deer in the area.

Vic Johnston Community Centre

The VJCC has been the centre-point for hockey, skating, community events and meetings in Streetsville for the past 5 decades. Located in close proximity is the Streetsville Pool and Memorial Park. The park offers a cosy soccer field, a well lit softball diamond, batter's box, fishing area and a pedestrian trail as well as the afore mentioned VJCC. The park also offers shady spots for picnics, a comfort station, several BBQ hot spots and a children's play area with playground equipment, as enclosed in the surrounding nature.

Streetsville Square

Recently renovated Streetsville Square is a vibrant hub for people to come and unwind with a cup of coffee or ice cream or enjoy fine and casual dining at one of the many popular restaurants. It includes a covered stage, the town cenotaph and outdoor seating for residents.

Streetsville is also well known for a variety of local festivals and events, such as:

Bread and Honey Festival: This is an annual event held at the Streetsville Memorial Park on the first weekend of June. There are live musical performances, a carnival run, a consumers market, a pancake breakfast, and parade.

Canada Day: Every July 1, the neighbourhood holds a local Canada Day celebration at the Memorial Park. There are various activities and performances finishing with a firework display around 10pm.

Santa Claus Parade: The annual Mississauga Santa Claus Parade starts on Queen Street at Britannia Road and travels south through the village.

Christmas Market: The Christmas Market includes food and gift vendors, live entertainment and the lighting of the towns Christmas Tree.

Types of homes & their Age

Like in most of Mississauga, the Streetsville area hosts to one's many wants and needs. Throughout the neighbourhoods, one can find single homes, semi-attached houses, townhouses, multistory buildings, condos, apartment blocks as well as cosy bungalows. The houses date from early 1970s to late 1990s.
